While Reform Judaism is by far the largest Jewish denomination in North America, it has only a tiny presence in Winnipeg, surprising given the size of Winnipeg's Jewish community and its 140 year history. This presentation focuses on the origins of the City of Winnipeg, the immigration patterns that built the Jewish community here, and the unique geographic and evolving cultural issues that have shaped the religious practices of Winnipeg's Jewish community to this day.
This presentation will build on previously published histories on Winnipeg's Jewish community, but with a specific focus on the intra-community dynamics that lead to our current map, with a peek ahead to what the future might look like.
